Michel serves or has served as General Counsel to several regional employers, including business and not-for-profit corporations, professional corporations and limited liability companies. He has represented national and international corporations in their legal matters in Upstate New York. Michel has also served as the City Attorney for the City of Oneida, New York and was an adjunct Professor of Business Law at the Syracuse University School of Management.
Michel was elected to serve five legislative terms as a member of the Madison County Board of Supervisors; where his leadership, legal and business skills were a recognized driving force behind the financial and environmental success of the quasi-business operations that he oversaw as the ten year Chairman of the Madison County's Public Utilities Service Committee and eight year Chairman of the County's Solid Waste and Recycling Committee. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Native American Affairs Committee and as an active member of the Finance, Ways and Means, Planning and Economic Development and Criminal Justice / Public Safety Committees.
Community service has always been an important component of Michel's life. He believes that his involvement in community organizations has contributed to the well-rounded and accessible personality that his clients seek. Some of his community service activities include: president and board member of the Oneida City School District Foundation, president, board member and past Youth Exchange Officer of the Oneida Rotary Club, president of the Greater Oneida Civic Center, Inc., president of the Oneidas Club, officer and board member of both the Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and the Greater Oneida Little League, Team Captain-Relay For Life, Coach/Assistant Coach of youth basketball, baseball and soccer teams, member of the New York State Surrogate's Decision Making Committee, member of various City of Oneida committees including Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, Economic Development and Planning Committee, Downtown Improvement Committee and Inside-Outside District committee member. Michel also served for many years as a mentor for the Oneida City School District's Sixth Grade Conference and as a presenter at the Career Days Programs at the Oneida High School and Middle School.
